Services relating to Temperature Sensors
As well as being the largest manufacturer, supplier and stockist of temperature measurement and control products and accessories, TC Ltd can also offer various services to our customers. Some of the services listed below may be necessary to achieve or meet certain standards within an application, please contact us to discuss your requirements, we will be more than happy to assist you.
In-House and UKAS Calibration
TC Ltd offer calibration to internationally recognised and approved standards for sensors and instrumentation. Units can be calibrated prior to despatch, or units purchased previously can be sent to our calibration laboratory. ‘System’ calibration can be performed to ensure that instrumentation and sensors are reading correctly and what errors you can expect in your application. Click here for more information about the range of calibration services TC Ltd offer.
Temperature Sensor Repair, Replacement and Recycling
As well as quoting against customer supplied drawings and written or verbal specifications, we are also able to quote for replacement sensors based on faulty or broken units which are sent in to our manufacturing facility in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. On some occasions, costs can be saved by reusing component parts from faulty or broken sensors to manufacture replacement units.
WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) Directive
If you are buying a new electrical item from TC Ltd, we will recycle your old one for free. Electrical waste is the UK’s fastest growing type of waste, which if not dealt with properly and efficiently, will cause serious damage to wildlife and human health. All returned items are put into our segregated waste area and are periodically collected by a certified waste recycling body who take the appropriate course of action and issue the correct certificate for approved disposal.
Metallurgical Testing
Along with radiographic, dye penetrant and magnetic particle inspections mentioned on this page, there are various other forms of testing available from TC Ltd, which can give our customers more information on the metal tubes and sensors they are purchasing or have purchased in the past. This includes; hardness, corrosion and bend testing, chemical composition analysis and microstructure and grain size evaluations, plus many more. This service is only available for components applicable to our products, please contact us for further information.
Dye Penetrant Inspection
DPI is a form of assessment which locates defects in metals or ceramics, which can be applied to both ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Imperfections such as cracks are shown up with either a coloured dye (predominantly red) which is visible to the naked eye, or a fluorescent dye which can only be seen using a UV lamp. This form of non-destructive testing is particularly popular because of the quick turnaround.

Tagging
To ensure traceability and to help customers keep track of and easily identify sensors, we offer a number of tagging options for the products we supply. This includes references on heatshrink which is then applied to the extension cable, etching on miniature or standard connectors and laser marking onto pot seals using the latest technology to accurately and quickly identify sensors, as per customer required specifications. Customers can also have either plastic tags, UV stable polyester labels or metal tags which are affixed to the sensor, containing order numbers, part codes, dates or any other information required.
Platinum/Rhodium Alloy Recycling
TC Ltd are able to offer a service of recycling high cost Platinum/Rhodium material, used in precious metal thermocouple types B, R & S. Through recycling, savings can be made to be offset against new purchases of sensors, accessories or other products. Minimum weights do apply, please contact TC Ltd for a full guide to this service.
Pressure Testing
Due to the large number of products obtainable from TC Ltd and the general need for safety and security when working in high pressure, various inspections are available including hydrostatic pressure testing and helium leak tests.
Radiographic Inspection
Radiographic inspection (X-Ray) is a non-destructive method of exposing flaws or faults within cold ends of sheaths, sensing sections of sensors or component products. Radiography can determine where a fault has occurred within a faulty sensor, such as a broken connection, short circuit or or otherwise undetectable defect.
Magnetic Particle Inspection
Magnetic particle inspection is a particularly accurate method of non-destructive testing which is designed for ferrous materials. A particle is applied to the surface needing to be tested, then the surface is magnetised by direct or indirect magnetisation. After the magnetisation, the particles are drawn to any area of imperfection, thus showing the technician where any flaws lie.
Eddy Current Testing
etc is another type of non-destructive testing which is designed to highlight surface and sub-surface defects, through the process of electromagnetic testing. This is an extremely sensitive technique which can detect tight and minute cracks or splits in sheaths of sensors and thermowells.
