Pressure/Vacuum Feedthrough Assemblies Enhance Reliability for Renewable Energy Application

Feedthrough Fitting Application
A Renewable Energy Generation company approached TC with a requirement for sealing various wires as they passed through a vacuum boundary into a process carrying low-voltage signals. The application was at very low temperatures and could be from near vacuum up to 20 bar pressure. Due to the process conditions, the client had to use very specific wire with an enamel coating.
What were the issues?
The existing compression-style feedthroughs presented significant issues:
- Insulation Damage: During installation, the metal edges of the feedthroughs often caught and damaged the outer insulation of the elements.
- Electrical Shorts: The compromised insulation risked short circuits, potentially causing interference and endangering sensitive instrumentation.
- Seal Failures: Loss of the vacuum/pressure seal led to downtime and expensive repairs and replacements.

What was TC's solution?
To address these issues, we supplied our Series WF range of feedthroughs. These pressure / vacuum sealing assemblies not only allow multiple wires to pass through the pressure / vacuum boundary but they also utilise a soft, non conductive sealant and ceramic internal components that were less abrasive on the elements being fed through. In addition, were there to be a failure in the element insulation when passed through the gland, the element would still be electrically isolated from both the gland and other wires passing through.
Outcomes
The implementation of Series WF feedthroughs delivered significant benefits:
- Eliminated the need for costly element replacements.
- Reduced downtime by preventing seal failures and wire damage.
- Enhanced operational efficiency and reliability.
Note: This solution resolved a specific challenge in a particular application. Every situation is different, and your needs may require a different approach. The suitability of any of our products for a particular application is ultimately for the purchaser to determine, as they are best positioned to make that judgment.
These case studies are shared to illustrate how our products have been used successfully, but final product selection should always be based on your specific application requirements, standards, and industry regulations. The suitability of any of our products for a particular application is entirely at the discretion of the purchaser as being the best judge for that particular application.
