Background to Temperature Measurement Project
TC were contacted by a world-renowned automotive company, who manufacture vehicles, compete across many disciplines and have won various titles all over the world.
The company needed to measure temperatures on a very small surface area on one of their vehicles, which was critical for a fast-paced development project. The area to be measured was under 20mm², with only 1.2mm of clearance space for sensor installation.
Thermocouple Solution
We were asked to provide a solution that would meet the customer’s demanding specifications. The tight space and the small surface area required a very precise and compact sensor that would deliver reliable performance. The project was urgent, as it was part of a rapid development program.
We proposed a range of miniature thermocouples with diameters of 0.25mm and 0.5mm, built with a mineral insulated construction for flexibility and durability. The construction of these thermocouples allowed for precise placement on the small surface area while also enabling the sensors to be bent and routed through the constrained spaces within the application.
Swift Delivery of Thermocouples
Understanding the critical timeline, TC Ltd utilised their distribution division, TC Direct, to provide an immediate solution. The company’s extensive stock of standard thermocouples included the miniature thermocouples our customer needed. With the thermocouples ready for next-day delivery, the client was able to place an order at 2 pm, and the sensors were shipped the same day, ensuring they arrived on time for the development project.
